hey girls!!
sorry for the last post. lots of ups and downs lately. i am also sick with a nasty cold. :-(
bonnie wildwood has finished our save-the-date postcards so look for those in the mail soon! we'll be sending out the invites this summer.
finances have caused us to scale back the number of guests so it will be somewhere quite a bit less than 100. an intimate gathering actually sounds fun. it's about US after all not a huge party for people we feel we "have" to invite. i never wanted that. but i still want a pretty party!!
i'm not sure what i will need your all's help with yet, we are nailing down more details the first weekend in may when we meet with our wedding lady. we'll need you to be here friday oct. 11 for the rehearsal dinner.
i need to know how you all feel about renting a house here on the shore for the weekend at a group rate as opposed to a hotel. when i get in touch with the realtor i will hopefully have a price estimate for you on that.
i think having the bridal shower/bacherlorette weekend the weekend before the wedding is a must for the benefit of Sarah and Marybeth, who will have to travel quite far to do it. since most of us are on the east/coast ct we should do something in or near CT. mary f and sarah k are putting the plan together, i think? i don't know how it works. i have no frame of reference :-) if you guys need my mom you can reach her at 860-223-6266. i'm assuming she helps with the bridal shower since family members are invited too as well as friends. i don't want anything corny for that just a nice lunch somewhere maybe. so maybe friday night for the bachelorette, then a brunch or something saturday and then we can all take some rest and then sunday for the bridal shower? let me know all of your ideas. we'll put together something VERY affordable and awesome.
that's all i have for now. oh, my flowers will probably be purple tulips and sunflowers :-)
ari, i'm hoping to get home this summer at some point. i'd still like you to knit me a pair of gloves if you are up for it. i will buy the yarn you need. i'm assuming you'd have to see my dress though.
also on that note, maybe i'll come up to CT for a weekend this summer and those of us that are around can get together, have fun, see the dress, and plan any details that need working out then.
i love you all!! xo
glad you're feeling better about things... as far as the shower goes- Alex & Stacey have access to a good common room for parties in their apartment complex (it's kinda in the ghetto of Meriden but it's free) Stacey always has told me that anytime I want to use it for anything. It might be good for the shower, has tables and chairs and is wheelchair accessible... just a thought if you needed a space.
ReplyDeleteHi, loves!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear you in better spirits. :)
I absolutely can't wait to see the cards Bonnie made. I'm really touched that you've consulted her.. she has such sweet taste. :)
I love the idea of renting a house at a group rate, that'll be lovely!
And common rooms are a great idea, T! I've been to many a family party in those (Cromwell.)
Usually a friend or family member puts the bridal shower together. Of course planning can't happen on here so much. ;) But I'd be happy to get to work on it. And hey Karen- do you like surprises? I vaguely recall that you kinda don't.. you might prefer to know the jist of it? Don't worry - I have no notions of you making a dress out of toilet paper at your bridal shower.
oh wow - knit gloves to go with your wedding dress! how lovely!
I can't wait to see it all!
You know me well, Sarah. I like the gist of it. I like classy/vintage/elegant ... but also THRIFTY. i have to be honest, not sure i'm keen on a common room can we have this somewhere pretty like a winery, etc ... with a lot of sunlight? i promise i won't get bridezilla .... i just want it to be beautiful and memorable. and SIMPLE.
ReplyDeleteif you all love these dresses, maybe we can just all get the same one? i do think they are super pretty and the price looks right. the british price? lol. probably won't do boots for this long of a dress so we'll come up with something else that works.
1. Shoes (maybe black peep toe pumps) would be super cute with that drss- but we should prbly decide soon to get stuff ordered
ReplyDelete2. Keep in mind for flowers- tulips will be out of season so may be pricey (Elisa & I were talking wedding last- she's a good resource, she did a lot of DIY stuff)
3. Keep in mind it is fall in New England so there is no guarentee for sunlight- but there is an accessible winery in Wallingford that has a common room but I don't know how expensive it is
Just trying to give a little feed back since I've done this wedding thing what seems like a lot in the past few years...
you're a great information source Tanya! you have done this a lot!
ReplyDeletei could definitely go with that dress as well.. if it comes in a size amenable to all!
if Gouveia is the winery you're thinking of, Tanya, they unfortunately don't rent their space for events..
i'd have to strongly consider a place your Mom would be ok with, too, if they are part of the funding / part of the bridal shower arrangements.
wow, what a good point about the flowers & in-season/out-of-season rates. cockscomb is a lovely fall plant.
oh yay! the dress is available in a good range of sizes! hooray! i could send a facebook message to the so-far-quiet gals to ask if they are interested?
ReplyDeleteI'm cool with the rockabilly dress. has someone contacted the seller about the quantity/color? do they make them to order?
ReplyDeleteif you are inviting family memebers and such to a bridal shower you should have some sort of registry, even a small one...because they need something to go on as far as gifts; just my 2 cents
Thanks, Jenn! Yay! Well, all we need is Mary F's input on the rockabilly dress!
ReplyDeleteAmazon has the dress in purple and numerous sizes.
The thing about Amazon selling the dress is that they probably won't disclose their inventory numbers and there isn't really someone to contact.
hahaha....thats funny. youre right.
ReplyDeletehah, the question would just go into a 'queue' probably of the thousands. ;)
ReplyDeleteHey everyone,
ReplyDeleteI commented on Facebook, but I'll duplicate my thoughts here. I like the dress and I purchased it a few minute ago. Very exciting! As far as shoes something 1950s style I think will look nice. Maybe the bridesmaids can have the same style shoe, but at the very least we should have the same color I think. Karen, if you want if/when you come back to CT this summer we could have a get together and put together the wedding favors if this is something you need. I agree with Jenn about the registry. Lastly, Karen, you are far cry from "bridezila"! This is YOUR day, though, and you are entitled to call the shots :)
Can you post the link here to the dress to buy--Iwant to make sure i get the right one!
ReplyDeleteKaren, I am sorry it's taken me so long to reply, but I'd LOVE to knit up some gloves for you! xo
